Aparece a menudo esta palabra árabe, mal transcrita al español, en noticias referentes a la guerra de Iraq contra Irán, o a la del Líbano. Su transcripción correcta es «yihad», y su traducción, guerra santa. (En árabe es voz masculina; preferible, pues, al hablar del partido político libanés, «Yihad islámico», y no islámica.)
